The Go-To LUT

The Go-To LUT

My fast, reliable “almost one-click” way to get the colors I love—every time.

Why I Made This

Color grading used to slow me down more than anything else. Every shoot looked different depending on lighting, lenses, or the time of day—and I kept chasing a look I liked without ever landing on something consistent.

So I built The Go-To LUT.

This is the look I reach for on almost every video I make: clean contrast, pleasing color, and skin tones that match my personal taste. Sometimes it really is one click. Other times it’s the perfect base to build on. Either way, it gets me there faster.

How It Works

The Go-To LUT is designed to sit cleanly on well-exposed Rec.709 footage or properly converted LOG footage. It adapts easily across different lighting situations without crushing shadows or blowing out highlights.

It adds subtle depth and color separation for a balanced, finished look—without feeling heavy or overdone. This isn’t about technical color accuracy; it’s about getting my preferred look quickly and consistently.

What’s Included (One Complete Pack)

Everything comes in one bundle:

  • Go-To Creative LUT (Rec.709) — my everyday look
  • Go-To 709+ LUT — a punchier option with more contrast and pop
  • Go-To LOG Conversion LUT — converts LOG footage and applies the Go-To look in one step

Each LUT includes both 65-point and 33-point versions.

How to Use

Rec.709 Footage

  1. Base corrections (exposure + white balance)
  2. Apply Go-To Creative LUT or Go-To 709+
  3. Make final tweaks if needed

LOG Footage

  1. Base corrections
  2. Apply Go-To LOG Conversion LUT
  3. Refine to taste

65-Point vs 33-Point LUTs

Both are included so you can work however you prefer:

  • 65-Point LUT
Best for final color grading in your editing software. Smoothest transitions and highest quality.
  • 33-Point LUT
A lighter version that works great for:
    • In-camera monitoring
    • External monitors or recorders
    • Mobile editing apps
    • Cell phone footage
    • Camera apps like Kino that support LUT imports

Best Practices

  • Start with well-exposed, properly white-balanced footage
  • Adjust LUT intensity to taste
  • Expect minimal tweaking for Rec.709 footage
  • Adjust blacks and highlights last for final control

PSA

This LUT won’t fix bad footage.
It works with properly exposed and balanced footage to give you the intended look.
